Advice for Engraving a Pocket Watch

The other day I posted about how getting a message engraved on a pocket watch is a great idea for a personalised gift to give more to someone for a special occasion such as a wedding, birthday or other special occasion. When deciding on what to get engraved or where to get the message engraved on the watch there are many different things to consider. Here’s some advice on what to think about and consider for the engraving.

Before going to the place where you’re going to get the engraving done, think about:
  • Practicing writing your wording
  • The Spacing and layout of words
  • Fonts you would like to use

There is some common advice with regards to what and how your message is engraved:

A watch engraved for a "2010 Salesman of the Year"
  • Remember that this isn't a simple gift card so don’t write ‘To’ and ‘From’
  • Make the first letter of each major word a capital letter
  • Your engraved text should be concise and well balanced so that it looks right on the pocket watch
  • For a more personal message, add it to the inside of the watch
  • Font styles cannot usually be mixed so ensure you are happy with your choice
  • Once an engraving has been done, you will most likely be unable to get a refund.

As well as pocket watches you can also get the back of a fob watch engraved with a small message or any other type of timepiece. As mentioned though it’s vital that you are happy with your wording and style before you get the engraving done as it can’t be changed or refunded.
