One of the most important tasks for a wedding is making sure the Bride and Groom get to the church on time. For the Groom for responsibility lies with the Best Man so its important for him to have a good working wrist or pocket watch for the big day.

Here's a look at the other male roles in a wedding. In the coming week we will also take a look at the female roles.

Father of the Bride

As well as traditionally funding the wedding, the Father of the Bride walks his daughter down the aisle and gives her away. He will also give a speech and dance with the Bride at the wedding reception.

Father of the Groom

One of the simplest male roles in a wedding, tradition has it that the Groom’s father actually doesn’t have any official roles in a wedding apart from to be there. Simple.

Best Man

The best man is chosen by the Groom as a close reliable friend. Tasked with organising the stag do, the Best Man’s roles then include looking after the Groom the night before and during the wedding. Make sure he has a quality timepiece to make sure he gets the Groom to the church on time. He will look after the rings, stand by the Groom in church and then deliver a (hopefully) humorous and memorable speech at the wedding reception.

Usher

The Usher’s are there to organise guests as they arrive at the Church and help seat them for the ceremony. You can also task Ushers with helping guests from the ceremony to the wedding reception.

Groom

The most important male role in the wedding, the Groom is the centre of the day (after the Bride of course). The Groom should be able to enjoy the day so any tasks and organising can be given to the Best Man and Ushers. To say thank you, if is often customary for the Bride and Groom to give gifts to the wedding party to say thank you for their help.
